One of our favorite plants for adding patriotic charm to porches, patios and gardens is the classic geranium. Why We Love Geraniums
Geraniums are a summer favorite because they are both beautiful and easy to care for. Their bold blooms stand up well to the summer heat and can brighten containers, hanging baskets, window boxes and garden beds. How to Care for Your Geraniums
Give Them Plenty of Sun
- Geraniums thrive in full sun and [erform best when they recieve at least 6-8 hours of sunlight each day. More sun typically means more flowers.
Water Consistently
- Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Water throroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry, but avoid keeping the soil constantly wet, which can lead to root problems.
Feed for More Blooms
- Apple a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-4 weeks during the growing season to encourage continuous flowering and healthy growth.
Remove Spent Flowers
- Deadheading, or removing faded blooms, encourages the plant to produce more flowers. Simply pinch off old flower heads to keep your geraniums looking fresh and vibrant.
Water for Overcrowding
- Geraniums appreciate good air circulation. If plants become crowded, trim them back lightly to promote healthy growth and additional blooms.
